The Spongebob Movie is the third feature film in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise based on the popular TV series.
SpongeBob SquarePants, his best friend Patrick Star and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom hit the big screen in the first-ever all CGI SpongeBob motion picture. After SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home. As they navigate the delights and dangers on this perilous and hilarious rescue mission, SpongeBob and his pals prove there’s nothing stronger than the power of friendship.
The original Spongebob theatrical film was released in 2005.
Originally scheduled for release on May 22, 2020, the film was put on the shelf due to Wuhan coronavirus and all movie theaters in the world being closed. It was then scheduled for release on August 7, 2020. Paramount decided in mid-June 2020 that they would release the film exclusively on Video On Demand, and tentatively on January 15, 2021.
