The movie The Trial of the Chicago 7 is based on the infamous 1969 trial of seven defendants charged by the federal government with conspiracy and more, arising from the countercultural protests in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The story is set in 1968 and 1969, but speaks to the divisiveness of our times and how young people can take on power and change the world.
The film is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (Oscar winning writer of The Social Network, The West Wing and Broadway’s revamped To Kill A Mockingbird). Steven Spielberg was attached to direct the film in 2012.
Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Frank Langella and Mark Rylance all star in the film.
