2018 had a record breaking year at the U.S. box office, with just shy of $12 billion. And over 800 movies were released in U.S. theaters. Among the more than 30 movies that were bonafide box office hits, (movies earning over $100 at the U.S. box office), many were also critical successes, such as A Star Is Born, Crazy Rich Asians, A Quiet Place, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Mission Impossible-Fallout and The Incredibles 2.
In addition to the best, there is also the worst. One often wonders how studios can make certain pictures when on paper they can’t even look promising. Case in point, the 2018 releases Action Point and The Happytime Murders, to name just two.
