While there will never be a Joker as good as Heath Ledger’s, Warner Bros. is in early development on a Joker standalone movie in the Suicide Squad universe starring Jared Leto, who is also executive producing. Yes, Jared Leto’s incarnation of Batman villain The Joker is getting his own movie. No writer or director are assigned at this time. So stay tuned for details about all of that.
Meanwhile, Todd Phillips’ origin tales film about the Joker is still in development and will fall under a different DC origins cinematic banner, to separate it from the titles set during the current day. Joaquin Phoenix is set to star in Phillips’ movie. It is also from Warner Bros.
In addition, Suicide Squad 2, which will also feature Leto as the Joker once again, is going into production some time in 2019.
