Finding Dory Swims Its Way Into Your Heart and Soul

It’s been roughly thirteen years since the world was first introduced to a Clownfish named Marlin on his search for his missing son, Nemo. Finding Nemo quickly swam its way into our hearts and became yet another jewel in Disney/Pixar’s crown of classic family films. Now in the year 2016, we are welcomed back into the undersea world of Nemo and his friends…but this time to hear the story of the forgetful fish we all love most, Dory.

In Finding Dory we are brought back to the reef where Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks), Nemo (voiced by Hayden Rolence), and Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) reside. After a field trip to the stingray migration makes Dory ponder the idea of “home”, she begins to wonder where she came from and where her parents are. Dory, Marlin, and Nemo begin an epic journey to find Dory’s parents and help her discover where she came from. After coming to a dead end at an aquarium at the edge of the sea, Dory is captured, and Marlin and Nemo struggle to rescue her from a life of captivity. All the while, Dory continues the search for her parents with the help of some new friends, old friends, and memories that don’t quite seem to piece together.

Once again, Disney has created a film with enough heart, soul, and charm to leave us talking for the rest of the year. With a creative story, witty humor that adults will find more enjoyable than the kids, and of course emotion that will leave you blubbering like a child, Finding Dory is a true Disney masterpiece. Ellen DeGeneres (need I say more) is an absolute knockout as the forgetful fish, delivering both an incredible comical and emotional performance. And let me tell you, baby Dory will leave you in tears!

Is the film better than the original? Of course not, it can’t be beat. But is it a close runner up? Definitely. Finding Dory is the perfect film for the new generation of children who didn’t grow up with Finding Nemo. Now it is Dory’s time to shine in a new generation’s hearts.
