The Witches (2020), an all new adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1983 novel The Witches, is directed by Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future) and stars Oscar winner Anne Hathaway.
The story, which was previously adapted by the studio into a 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston (see poster below), follows a 7-year-old boy who stumbles upon a coven of child-hating witches he must stop — even though he has been turned into a mouse.
Hathaway plays the Grand High Witch.
Originally scheduled for theatrical release on October 9, 2020, Warner Bros. sent the film to their HBO Max platform for release on October 23, 2020. The film bypasses theaters.
