The movie The Painted Bird is a semi autobiographical account of Jerzy Kosiński.

The film tells the story of a young Jewish boy. His parents send him to relatives in Eastern Europe to avoid antisemitic persecution. The boy’s aunt suddenly dies and he has to take care of himself in a dangerous wild world that is hostile to him.

The film was nominated for the 2020 Best Foreign Film Oscar. (It lost to Parasite).
