In the movie Coming To America 2, Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is set to become king of the fictional country of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America — a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father’s dying wish to groom this son as the crowned prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America.
Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, John Amos, Shari Headley and James Earl Jones are reprising their roles from the original film.
Coming To America was released in 1988 and earned over $128 million at the U.S. movie box office. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $300 million today.
Originally scheduled for release on December 18, 2020, the film was put on the shelf due to Wuhan coronavirus. Paramount sold the film to Amazon, which debuts the film exclusively on their Prime Video platform March 5, 2021.
