Adapted from the novel by famed author Jean Rhys, the movie Quartet, (originally released in 1982), celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Merchant-Ivory partnership with a lush depiction of tortured love in the Golden Age of 1920s Paris.
Isabelle Adjani, (winner of the Best Actress award, 1981 Cannes Film Festival), stars as the young West Indian woman who becomes enveloped in a love quadrangle with her husband (Anthony Higgins), an art patron (Alan Bates) and his wife (Maggie Smith, nominated for a Best Actress BAFTA for her role in the film.) Featuring luminous cinematography by Pierre Lhomme and a stirring score by Richard Robbins, Quartet captures both the seductive glamour of the time and the dark emotions rumbling underneath.
Cohen Film Collection is proud to present a gorgeous new restoration of this Merchant-Ivory classic, which was released unrated in the United States originally.
