In the movie Dark Waters Mark Ruffalo plays a tenacious corporate attorney who uncovers a dark secret that connects a growing number of unexplained deaths due to one of the world’s largest corporations. In the process, he risks everything – his future, his family (Oscar winner Anne Hathaway plays his wife), and his own life – to expose the truth.
Part Erin Brokovich, part The Insider, the film is based on the true story of Rob Bilott, who in the late 1990s battled chemical giant DuPont in West Virginia and its illegal dumping of the toxic C8, a chemical related to the making of Teflon. It was found in the drinking water affecting 70,000 local residents.
Oscar nominee Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, HBO’s Mildred Pierce) directed the film.
