Once Upon a Deadpool is actually Deadpool 2 edited down to a PG-13 rating. Deadpool 2, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the title character, was released May 18, 2018 and earned $318,491,426 at the U.S. box office.
This family-friendly version of the decidedly not family-friendly superhero sequel is the movie’s second “new” cut, after Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut, which is on DVD.
Once Upon a Deadpool includes a framing device where a festive-looking Deadpool “reads” the sequel to Fred Savage, as a now-grown version of his nameless grandson character from the 1987 movie The Princess Bride.
Deadpool is the first Marvel character to be featured in an R-rated movie.
