Set during the Iraq War, The Yellow Birds DVD focuses on Bartle and Murph, two young soldiers struggling to survive during an uncertain war. They are led by an older, troubled Sergeant Sterling, who is haunted by previous battles and by inner demons that threaten the safety of his squad. Bartle also struggles to keep a promise he made to Murph’s mother before they left for Iraq. The second half of the movie centers around the now battled-scarred Bartle, who is back home and is struggling to forget whatever it is happened to him and Murph during their tour.
