Richard Hendriks is a programmer who works for a major Internet company called Hooli. On the side, he has been helping to develop a music app called Pied Piper. The Pied Piper project is funded by a man named Erlich Bachman. Erlich and Hendriks are trying to get Pied Piper off the ground when the CEO of Hooli, Gavin Belson, offers to buy Pied Piper for ten million dollars. Another offer comes from a venture capitalist, Peter Gregory, who offers a two hundred thousand dollar investment in exchange for five percent ownership of Pied Piper. With Erlich’s help, Hendriks decides to accept Gregory’s offer and see how far he can take Pied Piper. He faces competition from Hooli and its Pied Piper clone called Nucleus.
