In the movie Amityville The Awakening, starring 2016 Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh, a single mother moves her three children into a haunted house not knowing of the house’s bloody history.
Originally scheduled for release on April Fool’s Day 2016, the film was pushed back to January 6, 2017. And then again to its current release date, June 30, 2017. The film has been pushed back again to an indeterminate release date.
The original The Amityville Horror, starring James Brolin (the current Mr. Barbra Stresisand) and Margot Kidder, arrived in movie theaters during the summer of 1979 and took in over $86,432,000 during its initial theatrical run.
The original film spawned the sequel, Amityville II: The Possession, which was released in 1982. That film earned just over $12 million.
In 1983, Amityville 3-D (the third in the series) arrived in theaters and was DOA, earning only $6 million.
In 2005, a remake was released in theaters entitled The Amityville Horror. It did OK business, $65 million, especially considering that the film cost less than $20 million to produce. That film featured Ryan Reynolds in the lead role.
In Amityville The Awakening, Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
