The Boy is a chilling film directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) starring Lauren Cohan (“The Walking Dead”), produced in conjunction with Lakeshore Entertainment, who’s also handling international sales.
In this gripping film, Gerti (Cohan) is a young woman looking to escape a troubled past. A job as a nanny to a wealthy couple’s 8-year-old son while they vacation during the summer sounds great; the fact that it’s 3,500 miles away in England, makes it perfect.
When she arrives, Gerti realizes several odd things right away: Mr. & Mrs. Heelshire (Jim Norton and Diana Hardcastle) are too old to be parents of an 8-year-old boy, and they have a list of strict rules for her to follow. Their son Brahms also has a very precise daily schedule, and they warn Gerti that not following it could have a terrible result. But the most disturbing realization is that Brahms is not an actual 8-year-old boy…. he’s a life-sized porcelain doll, whom the elderly parents care for and deeply love, just like a real boy. “If you love him,” Gerti is instructed, “he will love you back.”
Not wanting to return to her old life, Gerti is soon alone in the house looking after the life-like replica of a little boy. Before long, Gerti notices that every time she breaks a rule, something strange happens in the house, and the doll reappears in different places and positions than where she put him.
Compelled to uncover the mystery behind Brahms, Gerti enlists the help of Malcolm (Jim Norton) the local grocery delivery man, the only person within miles who knows about the troubled history of the Heelshire family. As the horrifying details begin to surface and Gerti’s own past returns, she realizes that she wasn’t just hired – she was chosen.
