After the disastrous movie Tammy in which they collaborated, Ben Falcone (writer) and wife, Melissa McCarthy, star, team up again for the movie The Boss, which was originally entitled Michelle Darnell. This time with Universal Pictures’ money, instead of Warner Bros’.
In the movie The Boss, a titan of industry (Melissa McCarthy) is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget.
The Boss is the first potential blockbuster of 2016 for Melissa McCarthy. The second, the remake of Ghostbusters, which arrives in movie theaters in mid July.
Forty five year old Melissa McCarthy‘s meteoric rise to fame began with her Oscar nominated role in the movie Bridesmaids (2011). That film earned $169,000,000 at the US movie box office, and was one of the top earners of 2011.
She then went on to star in the box office hits Identity Thief, The Heat and Spy, all while continuing her Emmy winning role on the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly.
Sequels to The Heat and Ghostbusters are in the works, with Melissa McCarthy committed to starring in both.
