Pee Wee’s Big Holiday Release Date: March 18, 2016

In the movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, the third big screen movie featuring the fictional character Pee Wee Herman, played by Paul Reubens, a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny.

The Pee Wee Aloysius Herman comic fictional character was created and is portrayed by comedian and actor Paul Reubens.

The childlike Pee Wee Herman character was developed as a stage act that quickly led to an HBO special in 1981. As the stage performance gained further popularity, Paul Reubens took the character to motion picture with Pee Wee’s Big Adventure in 1985, toning down the adult innuendo for the appeal of children. This paved the way for Pee Wee’s Playhouse, an Emmy Award-winning children’s series that ran on CBS from 1986 to 1991. Another film, Big Top Pee Wee, was released in 1988 and bombed at the box office with $15 million.

The first of the Pee Wee Herman movies, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, was released in theaters on August 9, 1985 and went on to earn $41 million which, in today’s dollars, would be over $100 million.

Pee Wee’s Big Holiday is one of the first movies to be be released both in theaters and on Netflix same day.
