Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2 tells a story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.
The film is officially entitled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend.
The original Crouching Tiger was released in U.S. theaters in 2000 from Sony Classics and earned $128,078,872. To this day, that movie remains the highest grossing non-English language movie to be released in U.S. theaters.
In comparison, the 1998 movie Life Is Beautiful is the second highest grossing foreign movie released in America, and that film took in just over $57 million.
Adjusted for inflation, the 1979 movie La Cage Aux Folles, (which spawned a U.S. remake, The Birdcage), would be the second highest grossing foreign movie at the U.S. box office. During its original theatrical run in America, the film took in over $20 million.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2 will not even come close to the original film’s U.S. movie box office take because it is the first movie to be released on Netflix at the same time it will be released in movie theaters.
