In the movie Cloverfield 2, AKA 10 Cloverfield Lane, waking up from a car accident, a young woman finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.
Cloverfield was released in theaters in 2008 and earned $80 million at the U.S. movie box office. It was directed by Matt Reeves, who went on to direct Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. His next film is War For The Planet Of The Apes, in theaters 2017.
To say that 10 Cloverfield Lane is a low budget movie is an understatement. The film cost less than $5 million to produce, compared to the more than $25 million price tag of Cloverfield. Therefore, even if 10 Cloverfield Lane makes only $20 million in theaters, it will have earned back its production costs (as movie theater chains split the movie box office ticket prices 50/50 with the studios).
