The fourth film in the Mad Max franchise, Mad Max Fury Road, has Tom Hardy taking on the role of Max Rockatansky, a hardened ex-cop in a future beset by gas shortages and marauding gangs. The role was made iconic by Mel Gibson in the first three Mad Max movies; Mad Max (1979), Mad Max 2 (1981) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985).
This fourth film takes place a short while after the story detailed in 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, which keeps Mad Max relatively young. This time around the story revolves around Max (Tom Hardy) and the “Five Wives,” a group of women Max must protect from the bad guys.
Mel Gibson has a cameo in Mad Max: Fury Road as ‘Drifter.’
