At first glance, you’d think that any studio greenlighting a sequel to the box office bomb A Haunted House would be cause for investigation.
But, while A Haunted House, released by Open Road Films, (which is a movie studio co-owned by AMC and Regal Theaters), took in a paltry $40 million at the worldwide box office, (it was only released in the United States) – of which, the studio received 1/2 – the movie only cost $2.5 million to produce.
That makes A Haunted House one of the most profitable movies released in theaters during 2013.
A Haunted House 2, also starring Marlon Wayans, doesn’t yet have a director attached, but it does have a movie poster, with the most juvenile of tag lines, and a release date.
