Monsters

Monsters Release Date: August 7, 2013

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures… Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (Scoot McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss’ daughter, a shaken American tourist (Whitney Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border. We’re getting bloody sick of the very independent studios such as Magnet Releasing (behind “Monsters”) releasing their movies on Video On Demand a month before theatrical release. Why? Well, the biggest reason, any and all movies not released in movie theaters FIRST are not eligible for Oscar nominations. Plain and simple. And that will never change. So, in essence, while the movie “Monsters” is being compared to last year’s Best Picture Oscar nominee “District 9,” it hasn’t a chance in hell of earning any Academy Award nominations, since it hits TV screens before movie screens.Very retarded, in every sense of the word. And Magnet is not the only studio engaging in such foolish behavior. IFC, Magnolia, Strand, IDP, Oscilloscope and Echo Bridge are among the others; many others, too.
