How Do You Know is brought to us by the Oscar winning director – James L. Brooks – of the 1983 Academy Award for Best Picture, “Terms Of Endearment.” This movie involves a love triangle, with Paul Rudd playing a white-collar executive vying for Reese Witherspoon’s affections, and Owen Wilson portraying a professional baseball pitcher who is also a love interest. It really is complicated. But, really? Who would choose ugly, goofy, nasty Owen Wilson over the adorable Paul Rudd? Especially someone of Reese Witherspoon’s ilk, even though it’s just she in character. But still…
Originally Rated-R for really strong language, the movie was re-edited, with a lot fewer cuss words from Jack Nicholson and Owen Wilson to make it more family friendly PG-13. The biggest question, though… how many under 17 year olds will give a rat’s ass about the movie? It’s not for them. Nor was “Terms Of Endearment,” which, if it had been released today, would have also earned an R-rating, rather than its PG at the time, since the PG-13 rating was still a year out.
