The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones Release Date: December 11, 2009

An adaptation of the Alice Sebold New York Times best-selling novel, “The Lovely Bones,” tells the story of Susie Salmon, who is murdered, but continues to observe her family on Earth after her death. Although she is detached from the world she once knew, Susie witnesses the impact of her loss on her loved ones, whilst her killer skillfully covers his tracks and prepares to murder again. In a tone that is both emotionally truthful, and darkly humorous, Susie tries to balance her desire for vengeance against the love she feels for her family and her need to see them heal; and ultimately comes to understand that the concept of family can encompass both the living and the dead.

In “The Lovely Bones Movie,” Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz play the parents of Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), the child who narrates the story from heaven. Stanley Tucci plays the killer in hiding.

It was announced the day before “The Lovely Bones” commenced filming that original star was replaced by .

What’s interesting is that Paramount Pictures (orginally) did not positioning “The Lovely Bones Movie” for consideration at the “2009 Academy Awards.” The movie, which Peter Jackson finishes directing in and around Pennsylvania January 2008, would have had plenty of time to be edited and garner a Christmas 2008 release date, which would have made it eligible for the “2009 Oscars.” Now, however, the movie has a December 2009 release date penciled in, which allows for it to be a top competitor at the “2010 Oscars.”
