Immigrants from around the world enter Los Angeles every day, with hopeful visions of a better life, but little notion of what that life may cost. Their desperate scenarios test the humanity of immigration enforcement officers. In “Crossing Over,” writer-director Wayne Kramer explores the allure of the American dream, and the reality that immigrants find; and create — in 21st century L.A.
Wayne Kramer’s (The Cooler) intersecting stories, both cathartic and tragic, are brought to life by an international ensemble. The film stars Academy Award® nominee HARRISON FORD, Academy Award® winner SEAN PENN, RAY LIOTTA (Good Fellas) ASHLEY JUDD ((Double Jeopardy), CLIFF CURTIS (Whale Rider), JIM STURGESS (Across the Universe), ALICE EVE (Starter for Ten), ALICE BRAGA (City of God), JUSTIN CHON (Gary the Tennis Coach) and SUMMER BISHIL (Nothing is Private).
Think “Crash 2” – but not in a great way. The Weinstein Co. had initially positioned “Crossing Over” for a December 2008 release. Pushing a movie back is never a good sign. Then again, The Weinstein Co. is completely incompetent, having pushed back virtually all of their fall/winter 2008 movie releases, including which was a front runner to win the Best Picture Oscar in 2009.
