“W” – Two-time Best Director Oscar winning movie director (“Platoon,” “Born on the Fourth Of July”) is due a third Oscar. No? Well, he’s trying hard with the movie “W,” a biopic in the tradition of his other Presidential biopics “Nixon” and “JFK.” However, with the release of “W” on October 17, 2008, Oliver Stone reaches a milestone. “W” is the first of his Presidential biopics that will be released not only when – at least one can hope? – the President portrayed is still alive, but who is also STILL IN OFFICE. The 2008 Presidential primaries are not until the first week of November. So “W” will have been in movie theaters a full 3 weeks, to influence those who can’t think for themselves.
The best thing about “W” is it is being released by the same motion picture studio, Lionsgate,” who also put out the biggest box office hit of all time, for a documentary; “Fahrenheit 9/11,” a scathing portrayal of the “W” administration’s first term.
