"March 6-8, 2009 Movie Box Office"
"Watchmen" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Watchmen Poster

While Zack Snyder's second movie, "Watchmen," opened with the #1 spot at the movie box office this weekend, with $55 million, it fell far short of his first movie's debut, "300," which grabbed over $70 million its first weekend in theaters - two years ago.

The fact that "Watchmen," with movie trailers before the feature, runs at over 3 hours, seems to have hurt its box office take - even though it was released on more screens than any other R-rated movie in history - 3611.

The movie "Watchmen" is based on the comic book of the same name and stars Billy Crudup.

Billy Crudup, in the movie "Watchmen," gives new meaning to the phrase 'blue balls.' We actually get to see Billy Crudup (and his family jewels) up close and personal but his entire body is painted in blue.

"Watchmen" was the only new movie in wide release this weekend.

Last week's #2 movie, "The Jonas Brothers 3D Concert Movie," dropped 80%, its second weekend in movie theaters, and fell to the #9 spot, proving that even rabid tweens couldn't care less about seeing "The Jonas Brothers" lifelike - on the big screen - and that the JoBros are on life support and won't be around, thankfully, in the public light, much longer.

New in limited release, a number of art house films, including: "12," "Everlasting Moments," "Explicit Ills," "Phoebe In Wonderland," "The Horsemen," "Fados," "Shuttle" and "Sherman's Way."
