"January 30-February 1, 2009 Movie Box Office"
"Taken #1"

Super Bowl weekend, at the movies, is notoriously one of the slowest of the year.
Last year, however, Disney released their "Hannah Montana: The Concert Movie" during Super Bowl weekend and it broke a gazillion movie box office records.
As Wild About Movies predicted, the Liam Neeson movie, "Taken," blew "Mall Cop" away, and shot its way to the the #1 spot at the movie box office this weekend. The fact that the movie "Taken" is in the most number of theaters, nearly 3200, didn't hurt its box office take.
"Taken" grossed an estimated $9.5 million at the Friday movie box office to score the best opening day ever for Super Bowl weekend. And $25 million for the three day weekend.
As for all "2009 Oscar Nominees," "Slumdog Millionaire" was the only one able to crack the Top 10 this weekend, coming in at #6.
"The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button," the highest grossing "2009 Best Picture Oscar Nominee," to date, settled for #11 and a $116 million six week gross.
Also new in movie theaters this weekend, the horrid romcom "New In Town," featuring fading star Rene Zellweger, which managed $6.7 million for the #8 spot.
And the supernatural thriller "The Uninvited," which after three days in movie theaters has racked up $10.4 million. And #3 for the weekend. (Don't confuse this week's "The Univited" with that other supernatural thriller "The Unborn," also currently in movie theaters).
The last two weekends' number #1 movie, "Mall Cop," dropped to #2 this weekend. Its 3 week total is at just over $83 million. Not bad for a movie that has not one A or B list movie star in it.
