"January 23-25, 2009 Movie Box Office"
"Mall Cop" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Mall Cop Poster

Last week's #1 movie at the box office, "Mall Cop," retained its top spot, grabbing $21.5 million.

Kevin James's "Mall Cop" has been the #1 movie at the box office since its release and has amassed over $65 million since its January 16, 2009 debut.

New in movie theaters this weekend, "Underworld 3." which debuted at #1 on Friday. However, as with most horror/sci-fi movies, box office tends to drop the second and third days. That scenario held true with "Underworld 3, which entered the movie box office fray at #2, with just over $20.5 million.

"Underworld 3" is sans Kate Beckinsale, (star of the first two "Underworld" flicks). This incarnation stars Rhona Mitra of TV fame. You may remember her from her role on David Kelley's "Boston Legal."

"Gran Torino," which failed to earn any major "2009 Oscar Nominations," continued its race to $100 million. The Clint Eastwood film claimed the #3 spot at the movie box office this weekend, rolling away with $16 million and a four week $97 million gross.

The long delayed family film "Inkheart" bombed, as Wild About Movies predicted it would. With $7.7 million its first weekend in theaters it could only claim the #7 spot at the movie box office.

As for "2009 Oscar Nominees" - this weekend at the movie box office - "Slumdog Millionaire" leads the race. Wiith 10 Oscar nominations, the Indian film stole $10.5 million Friday through Sunday, for a grand 11 week total of $56 million. (This was the movie's first weekend in wide release).

The most nominated "2009 Oscar" movie, "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button," with 13 Academy Award nods, added $6 million to its coffers. After more than a month in movie theaters "Benjamin Button" has racked up $111 million; the most, so far, for any "2009 Oscar Nominee."
