"January 16-18, 2009 Movie Box Office"
"Mall Cop" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

New at a movie theater near you this weekend, the second movie filmed in Boston last year; "Mall Cop." An Adam Sandler film. Yes, Adam Sandler produced but hardly appears. And, as Wild About Movies predicted, "Mall Cop" becomes the #1 movie at the movie box office its first weekend in movie theaters. With Kevin James, aka "The King of Queens," entering the American lexicon as a 'leading' man, "Mall Cop," in 3144 theaters, grabbed over $33 million.
Last week's #1 movie, "Gran Torino," dropped to #2.
"My Bloody Valentine 3D," the first - and widest ever - 3D movie release of 2009, entered the movie box office race at #3. In 2534 theaters, the remake screamed up $22 million.
"Notorious" - a movie that has received primarily great reviews - including from Wild About Movies, takes the #4 spot for the weekend, its first in movie theaters, with $21.5 million.
"Hotel For Dogs" - its first weekend in movie theaters bit into the #5 spot at the movie box office, with nearly $18 million.
It does seem that Hollywood - and moviegoing audiences - have gone to the dogs lately, what with the #1 movie box office champs "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and the current movie box office blockbuster "Marley & Me."
The Bollywood cum Hollwood film "Chandni Chowk To China" opened in just over 125 theaters.
