"February 20-22, 2009 Movie Box Office"
"Madea Goes To Jail" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Heller everybody. Fear not. "Madea Goes To Jail" triumphed at the movie box office this "2009 Oscars" weekend. On Friday, its first day in movie theaters, "Madea" stole nearly $15 million. And set three records; best Friday before Oscars, best opening day for a Tyler Perry movie; best opening day for any Lionsgate movie, including previous winner, "Saw 4." For the entire first weekend, "Madea" broke the three records, as well, including $41.1 million opening weekend. Best every for a Tyler Perry movie and a Lionsgate movie. And best Oscar weekend movie box office take.
Writer, producer, actor and director Tyler Perry has become the new Eddie Murphy, a little more inspirational and down to earth, even.
While Eddie Murphy and that other has been black actor, Martin Lawrence, may have started the whole black man in fat black lady drag, it is Tyler Perry who has made the genre soar above fart jokes and more poop jokes.
"Madea" runs on a different kind of gas, the kind created by the genius Tyler Perry's vivid imagination and his alter ego is a force to be reckoned with.
Be you black, white, fat, skinny, old, young, gay or straight, "Madea" will whoop your ass if you cross her.
Also new in movie theaters this weekend, for the tweens with more of a tits and ass sense of humor, "Fired Up." The film bombed, coming in with $6.3 million.
Last week's #1 movie, "Friday The 13th," dropped 81% from its opening weekend - this, its second in movie theaters.
Wild About Movies predicted over $30 million for the first three days of "Madea Goes To Jail" at movie theaters nationwide.
