"Untraceable" & "One Missed Call" - Similar, Yet So Far Apart
December 31, 2007

Untraceable-Movie-PosterDiane Lane stars in a great thriller coming out at the end of January 2008. It's called "Untraceable." But the first wide release out of the gate in 2008, "One Missed Call," which many may confuse with "Untraceable," although similar in synopsis is so bad it's surprising that it wasn't a straight to DVD title. (Then again, the tweens might flock to it since it is rated PG-13). However, Diane Lane's performance in one of the best thrillers since "Fatal Attraction," is so good in the film, don't count out another Best Actress nomination for her in 2009 for her role in "Untraceable."

"Final Weekend At Movie Box Office" - No New Releases Crack Top 5

December 30, 2007

ChipmunksCheck back later this afternoon for the complete weekend box office report. But suffice it to say, now, that last week's #1 and #2 movies, (National Treasure 2 and Alvin And The Chipmunks, respectively), will retain bragging rights, and that the new release AVP2 will be lucky to finish at #5... "Madonna's Filth And Wisdom Movie" Madge's Big Screen Directorial Debut
December 29, 2007

Chris Haynes PhotoYes, we at Wild About Movies are shocked to find out that Madonna, the Oscar wanna-be-winner-whore, (remember when a lot of queens thought she would not only be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for "Evita" but go on to WIN?), has just wrapped directing her first 'feature film.' WAM contributor and president of CBH Communications, (a thriving restaurant PR firm in Boston), Chris Haynes, who, according to People Mag, is the biggest Madonna magazine collector of all time, is even stunned by this news. Did Madonna think that she could eclipse her husband's (Guy Ritchie) direction of her in the bomb of the millennium, "Swept Away?" Or did Madge forget that Hollywood HATES her? But, for more about her directorial debut, "Filth And Wisdom," no need to carry on. It is a 'short' film, based on her life, which will undoubtedly make its way around the world - at Film Festivals - and then remain stored in her vault - until she dies - after which, it might fetch $100, from Chris Haynes, himself. Who better for the master print to go to? (Full disclosure, I, Tim Nasson, am very friendly with Helena Bonham Carter, and have, hanging in my offices, personally signed posters of all of her movies from "Lady Hawke," "A Room With A View" to her only Oscar nominated movie, "Wings of the Dove." So... I know how it feels to be rooting for a contender who may always be a loser.) Yes, unfortunately, "Sweeney Todd The Movie," at the "2008 Oscars," is not going anywhere when it comes to collecting actual Oscar statues, including to my good friend Helena, even if, (which is doubtful, but hopeful), she gets a "2008 Best Supporting Actress Nomination"! Find out what Tim Burton has to say about why (he thinks) his movie version of "Sweeney Todd," starring his wife, Helena Bonham Carter, has bombed at the box office - in tomorrow's blog. Do stay tuned.

"AVP2 Bombs Opening Day"

December 28, 2007

AVP2The "Christian" film (yes, since the studio Walden Media is owned by a right wing nut job), "The Water Horse" bombed its opening day, proving for the tenth time this year that Grace Hill Media, and hopefully Walden Media, will soon be out of business. And that the "Christians" have no say at the box office - whatsoever. In fact, the blacks, who have made Tyler Perry a near billionaire, have a lot more say at the box office than the fanatical Christians, who are now behind that former fat pig, Mike Huckabee, as their 2008 US Presidential Candidate. (Now if only we can get you blacks, - notoriously immune to the ballot box - to get out and vote, especially since one of your own is running - there may be hope in the White House). On another note, no one cared either way, in this second go round of the immensely unpopular AVP big screen franchise. What's next? Batman vs Superman? Well, in Justice League, perhaps. Opening day, the sci-fi horror comedy (yes), took in only $9.5 million. Compare that to "National Treasure 2" with over $13.6 million that same day. Oh! And "The Water Horse" managed a suffocating $2.3 million, that same day.

Poster Plagiarism - Part 3
"27 Dresses" and "The Women"
December 26, 2007

The first two times we brought you copycatted movie posters you couldn't have been more surprised - and shocked at how blatant movie studios steal poster art from each other. Remember the all too similar "Ghost Rider" and "National Treasure 2" posters - both movies, incidentally, starring Nic Cage? Well, today, we bring you another example, this time of two 2008 movie releases. Compare the posters for "27 Dresses" and "The Women," below.

December 16, 2007

Charlie BartlettIt has been delayed for over one year but finally "Charlie Bartlett," starring Anton Yelchin, has a release date and a brand spanking new poster. Of course, our money is on the movie being a big stinker at the box office as all MGM/Weinstein Co. collaborations are. But, at least they keep trying. "The A-Team Movie" - In Theaters 2009
December 14, 2007

Mr TIt has been confirmed. "Four Brothers" and "Boyz 'N the Hood" director John Singleton is taking the director's chair for the big screen adaptation of that 'must see' mid 1980s one hour TV action comedy, starring Mr. T - "The A-Team." No word yet on who will be cast as "The A-Team" but our bets are on Ving Rhames to play the role that Mr. T. made famous - and made Mr. T very famous, (although no one can ever eclipse Mr. T in the role of "B.A." Baracus), and, perhaps Mark Wahlberg. The movie version of "The A-Team" will be a little less comedic than the TV show, and be updated to present day. But that van better still be the lead star of the film, if the studio knows what is good for them. Singleton will NOT be directing "Executive Order: Six" as imdb.com is erroneously reporting. Stay tuned for more info about "The A-Team Movie" including its release date and cast...

The "2008 Golden Globe Nominees" & The WAM Predicition Omission
December 12, 2007

Hairspray PosterIf you take a look at our "2008 Golden Globes" Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) nominee predictions, (on the homepage, feature story), you'll see a glaring omission. And we've, so far, heard from many of you, wondering where our brains were when we made our predictions. How could we forget the biggest and best musical movie of 2008? Well...

Yes, we certainly did forget "Hairspray," when we made our picks and are now certain that it will be included. But we don't know exactly which movie to knock out of the running. So just for the hell of it, how about "Knocked Up." While we're talking about omissions, there's also "Charlie Wilson's War" that could be given a Best Picture (Comedy or Musical nod).

Check back tomorrow, at 5AM PST, for the "2008 Golden Globe Nominations."

"2007 Boston Society of Film Critics Winners"
December 9, 2007

Diving Bell And Butterfly Poster The founder of the Boston Society of Film Critics, David Brudnoy, dropped dead of AIDS in 2004, (way before his time, unfortunately), and is either rolling over in his grave or laughing in heaven, (he didn't believe in an after-life, if there is one). Why? Many of the current members of "The Boston Society of Film Critics", not including Tom Meek, Joyce Kulhawik, Dan Kimmel, Jay Carr, (who never should have left The Boston Globe), Peter Keough, Ed Symkus, Connie Gorfinkle, Jim Verniere or Bob Tremblay, are a cabal of incompetent 'film critics' - OR are movie critics who don't even live in or write for any Boston papers. "Once a member, a member for life."

That being said, click here to see which pictures were picked as winners and what actors, actresses, writers, and directors were worthy of a Boston nod. "2007 Boston Society of Film Critics Award Winners."

10 of the Biggest Turkeys At Movie Box Office
November 22, 2007

Box Office TurkeyToday, Wild About Movies brings you the Ten of the Biggest Turkeys (in our opinion) in movie history. Well, actually, since the 1970s, when box office really started to count for something... Below, just a sampling of Box Office Turkeys. Hopefully, your turkey, today, will not be a stinker.

1. Pluto Nash 2002 - (Eddie Murphy) - Budget $100 million - Box Office Gross $4 million

2. A Sound of Thunder 2005 - (Ben Kingsley) - Budget $80 million - Box Office Gross $1.9 million

3. Gigli 2003 (Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez) - Budget $55 million - Box Office Gross $5.9 million

4. Town & Country 2001 (Goldie Hawn & Steve Martin) - Budget $90 million - Box Office Gross $6 million

5. Swept Away 2002 (Madonna) - Budget $10 million - Box Office Gross $500,000

6. Battlefield Earth 2000 (John Travolta) - Budget $73 million - Box Office Gross $21 million

7. All The King's Men 2006 (Sean Penn) - Budget $55 million - Box Office Gross $7 million

8. Ishtar 1987 - (Dustin Hoffman) - Budget $55 million - Box Office Gross $15 million

9. Timeline 2003 - (Paul Walker) - Budget $80 million - Box Office Gross $19 million

10. Around The World In 80 Days 2004 - (Jackie Chan) - Budget $110 million - Box Office Gross $24 million

Keep in mind, Box Office Grosses reflect the total amount of money taken in at movie theater box offices for each movie. BUT, only 1/2 of that money goes to the movie studio, on average. The other half of the box office gross? It goes to the theaters! So, although the budget of Pluto Nash was $100 million, the studio only grabbed $2 million from the US/Canada Box Office, not the $4 million the movie took in at the box office.

"WAM Early Picks For Best Pix Oscar Nominations at 2008 Academy Awards"
November 21, 2007

There Will Be Blood - Poster The "2008 Oscars" are three months away but we've narrowed down - from the over 300 films that will have been released in movie theaters by year's end - to five - the number of movies which will be nominated for most Oscar awards, including Best Motion Picture. Keep in mind, these are our early predictions, which we may amend next month. But we're posting today's predictions in our Blog which will remain in perpetuity. Wild About Movies Predictions for the five Best Picture Oscar nominees - "2008 Academy Awards" - "American Gangster," "Atonement," "No Country For Old Men," "Sweeney Todd," and "There Will Be Blood." Those are our five predictions, and we're sticking to them, for now. But, if there is one movie that can knock "American Gangster" out of the running, it is "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead." (Our predictions for the 5 longshot "2008 Best Picture Oscar nominees," since so many of you asked? "Charlie Wilson's War," "The Bucket List," "The Kite Runner," "The Orphanage" and the above mentioned "Before The Devil Knows You're Dead.") Oh! And a lot of you asked us to predict which ONE super summer blockbuster has a chance at a Best Picture nomination. There is only one that has a remote chance, but a chance is still a chance. "The Bourne Ultimatum." In any event, expect, without question, a Best Director nomination for "Devil's" 84 year old Sidney Lumet - and maybe even a sympathy win. Sidney Lumet has been nominated for the Best Director Oscar four previous times - "12 Angry Men" in 1958; "Dog Day Afternoon" in 1976; "Network" in 1977 and "The Verdict" in 1983. More about our Best Director predictions next week.

"Music Is My Boyfriend" - "Apple iPod Touch Commercial Song"
November 20, 2007

iPod Touch

Since this is a movie website, we're not usually interested in just songs. But the song in the TV commerical for the Apple iPod Touch, "Music Is My Boyfriend," is so catchy it got us wondering who sings it and where we could find it - for free. Well, right here, right now - and, guess what? "Music Is My Boyfriend" is not the correct title of the catchy tune... (continue)

"Iron Man" & "Cloverfield" Update
November 19, 2007

Star Trek 11Warner Bros. & Paramount Pictures updates: First, Warner Bros. has updated their Iron Man official website. It now includes a synopsis, the trailer, a small image gallery, cast and character information, and fan art.

Also, according to an inside source at Paramount, Wild About Movies has learned that JJ Abrams is going with the title "Cloverfield" for that horror movie of his opening on "01-18-08." A full year before the much more anticipated Paramount Picture "Star Trek 11." Don't forget that Paramount also has "Indiana Jones 4." And "The Spiderwick Chronicles." None of the four above mentioned Paramount films have anything to do with Dreamworks. Hopefully, when David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg leave Redstone's Melrose Ave offices at the end of 2008 they take their incompetent publicists Michael Vollman and Christine Batista - who have done nothing to enhance Paramount or its image - with them. (Unless they are fired by then.)

"Shrek 4" In IMAX 3D
November 15, 2007

Kung Fu Panda

Movie studios needed to do something drastic to get a lot of asses into theater seats. The biggest experiment launches Friday, with the release of "Bewoulf," in IMAX 3D and Digital 3D in conventional theaters. It is the first film in history to get a wide release in Digital 3D.

So convinced is Dreamworks that "Beowulf" will make a killing at the box office, they have signed a contract with IMAX for three of their upcoming movies to be released in IMAX 3D movies.

The IMAX 3D releases will include Monsters vs. Aliens in March 2009, How to Train Your Dragon in November 2009 and Shrek Goes Forth in May 2010. A fourth DreamWorks Animation title, "Kung Fu Panda,"will be released in IMAX's 2D format in June 2008.

The IMAX 3D titles are expected to be among the first presented with IMAX's digital 3D projection system, which is scheduled to be launched beginning June 2008. This is IMAX's first multiple 3D picture deal with a Hollywood studio. The 3D titles also will be simultaneously released to conventional digital 3D theatres. Paramount Pictures will be the exclusive distributor of the pictures. "3D cinema has an opportunity to revolutionize the way people experience movies," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. "We believe the immersive quality of IMAX will provide our audiences with a unique way to experience our films and we are delighted to include IMAX as a key part of our 3D strategy."

Tom Cruise - Red In The Face - After "Lions For Lambs" Gets Stung By "Bees" and Shot By "Gangster"
November 13, 2007

Lions For LambsTom Cruise already knows that his new movie, "Lions For Lambs," the first during his reign at United Artists, is an expensive flop after it failed to break into the top three at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend. Cruise was hoping that "Lions For Lambs" - which cost an estimated $35 million to make - would be an international hit, but the Robert Redford-directed movie debuted at number four in the box office chart with takings of only $6.7 million.

Compare that against the #3 movie of the weekend, "Fred Clause," which took in nearly $20 million.

"Lions For Lambs" is the first release from Cruise's United Artists studio, which he set up after he was sensationally dropped by Paramount's Sumner Redstone last year. A source tells MSNBC.com, "Tom wanted to really hit a home run with his first United Artists movie. It was more about how the industry was going to view him than the movie going public that Tom was worried about."

However, a bullshit, kiss-ass statement from United Artists has backed "Lions For Lambs" insisting they are happy with the box office numbers: "Given the modest production and marketing budgets we do not need to be a blockbuster hit. Everyone at United Artists are very proud of the film and could not have had a more perfect filmmaker to have made our first film."

All hot air. The movie stars three of Hollywood's royalty - TOM CRUISE - ROBERT REDFORD - MERYL STREEP. That alone, even though it is a piece of pond scum, should have snared at least $15 million at the box office. Expect a huge drop next weekend, somewhere in the realm of $3 million, and a total gross of nothing more than $20 million.

Fret not for Cruise or Meryl. Cruise stars in next summer's potential blockbuster "Valkyrie" and Street stars in the big screen version of the Broadway smash musical "Mamma Mia!"

"TEKKONKINKREET" - The Little (Animated) Movie That Might... Get An Oscar!
November 11, 2007

TEKKONKINKREETThe movie "TEKKONKINKREET" got an embarassingly short, yet possibly sweet, theatrical release this summer. One week, two theaters. One theater in NYC. One in Los Angeles. Its box office gross? $6,000. And its data is not even found on the most reputable of box office gross sites, Box Office Mojo. The film isn't listed on any major movie websites, except, as of today, on Wild About Movies. (No one reviewed it. In fact, the studio that released it, Sony Pictures, didn't even create a poster for its domestic theatrical release). However, the movie that no one has ever heard of - "TEKKONKINKREET" - is vying for a coveted spot, one of three, in the Best Animated Film Oscar category. We finally bring you all you need to know about the R-rated anime film (now on DVD) that just may prove to be the little movie that can... (continue)

12 Animated Films In Contention For the "Best Animated Film Oscar 2008"
November 9, 2007

RatatouilleThere was a time, going back to the early - mid 1990s, when everyone, old and young, alike, waited patiently for the ONE Disney animated film to get its release each year. (And before the late 80s, for the rereleases - in theaters - of classic Disney movies every seven years). Those days are long gone. Not only does Disney not have a hold on animated films any longer - there are 12 candidates, presently, for the 2008 Best Animated Film Oscar.

Twelve features have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the 80th Academy Awards®.

The 12 submitted animated features are:

“Alvin and the Chipmunks”

“Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters”

“Bee Movie”

“Beowulf”

“Meet the Robinsons”

“Persepolis”

“Ratatouille”

“Shrek the Third”

“The Simpsons Movie”

“Surf’s Up”

“Tekkonkinkreet”

“TMNT”

Noticably absent from the list of contenders for the Oscar for Best Animated Picture of 2007? Unlucky #13, the only other animated film of 2007, "Happily Never After." Lionsgate, the studio behind the dreadful film, decided it was better left unsolicited.

Under the rules for this category, a maximum of 3 films can be nominated in a year in which the field of eligible entries numbers at least 8 but fewer than 16. Yes, therefore, only three movies, at most, can be nominated from the list above.

Films submitted in the Animated Feature Film category also may qualify for Academy Awards in other categories, including Best Picture, provided they meet the requirements for those categories.

The 80th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PT. As always, if you're not near a TV, but are near your computer, Wild About Movies will be providing you with REAL TIME "2008 Oscar Winners" updates.

Oh! And our money is on Walt Disney/Pixar's "Ratatouille" winning the Oscar... The other two nominees? It's still early, but, today, we're betting on "Persepolis" and "Shrek 3."

Writer's Strike - Day 4: Meryl Streep's Tonight Show Appearance Canceled

November 8, 2007

Lions For LambsAlong with newspaper, online and radio appearances, movie stars are notorious for pimping their wares on late-night talk shows, such as Leno and Letterman. For film publicists who rely on the oxygen of late-night television to breathe life into their campaigns, the strike has been a kick to the C U Next Tuesday!

Television networks this week have been busy counting production casualties, but on the theatrical side, studios have begun counting a different toll: lost bookings.

A fall movie season already difficult because of a crowded calendar just became even more challenging. Movies due for release in the coming days and weeks -- films as diverse as "Lions for Lambs", "Fred Claus", "No Country for Old Men" and "August Rush" -- will now be left in the dust when it comes to television appearances for their stars.

They'll be forced to seek out such shorter lead-time outlets such as newspapers and radio.

Nearly every day in the coming weeks will bring a new victim. On Tuesday, for instance, MGM's "Lions For Lambs" lost a "Tonight Show With Jay Leno" booking for Meryl Streep.

"Late-night shows are cornerstones of a good campaign because a late-night audience is a moviegoing audience," said 42West's Amanda Lundberg, who is working on MGM's "Lambs" campaign. "And there is no replacement for the charisma of the actors reminding us why we like them."

Lundberg noted that on "Lambs", coverage from "Larry King Live", "Good Morning America" and Time magazine are filling the void -- somewhat.

Remember, though, movies that are such utter dreck as "Lions For Lambs," don't really have a chance even if Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise and Robert Redford appeared on The Tonight Show in a one-hour orgy. However, the lack of televsion timeslots will be giving us, here at WAM, much more one-on-one time with the stars.

Writer's Strike - Day 3: Agents Cutting Costs: Flying Coach
November 7, 2007

Writer's StrikeWhen you own an agency in Hollywood, and your clients go on strike, which takes away a percentage of your paycheck each week, it is time to start cutting back. Instead of wasting the money you collect from them, what is it - 15% of all contracts, it is time to halt the expense account of your hundreds of employees and start banning them from having "so many" power lunches at 5 star Hollywood eateries. And force them to fly coach, instead of paying for Business Class for their business trips to film festivals and meetings in NYC. According to numerous published reports, "after even 48 hours, the effects of the writers strike are tangible in the agency world, where firms are implementing plans to cut back overtime, travel and expenses. One senior agent said that if 30 dealmakers there usually head to Sundance for the film festival, perhaps one-third will make the trip this time. There will be fewer lavish lunches at the Grill, not as many road trips, and more agents flying coach instead of business class."

Let's pray to each and every God that we may pray to each and every day or night and immediately request him or her to put an end to this strike so that these fat, toupe wearing, but Armani clad CAA, Endeavor, ICM, UTA, William Morris Agency, etc. agents get their writers back. We wouldn't want their fat stomachs to lose a half of inch. Nor would we want any of their fat asses to require an extension seatbelt in coach on any airplane.

Writer's Strike - Day 2

TALK SHOWS ALREADY IN RERUN MODE
November 6, 2007

Jimmy KimmelLate-night talk shows are expected to feel the effects of the writers' strike first, but the television business in general is likely to be harder hit than the movie business in coming months. All of the network talk shows went into rerun mode last night, along with cable's The Daily Show and The Colbert Report which air on Comedy Central. (On Friday's Daily Show, host Jon Stewart remarked, "While we're not here, you can check out all of our content on our new website, TheDailyShow.com. Every Daily Show since I got here is on it, free.") Most primetime shows are not expected to be affected for several months. Jimmy Kimmel joked that writers would be picketing with blank picket signs.

Tom Hanks Turns Down Oscar Nominated Role That Goes To Tom Cruise

November 5, 2007

Tom HanksTom Hanks is a two time Oscar winner. We all know that. However, what you may not know is that Hanks turned down a role that went to Tom Cruise that earned Cruise a Best Actor Oscar nomination - the movie? "Jerry Maguire."

Tom Hanks turned down the role of "Jerry Maguire" so that he could pursue his directorial debut - the bomb "That Thing You Do."

We all associate certain actors with certain roles. But did you know that Cary Grant turned down the role of 007 in "Dr. No," that went to Sean Connery - and made him an international box office sensation? And, in turn, that Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in "Lord of the Rings" that went to Ian McKellan!

November 2, 2007

Robert Hoffman - Step Up 2

Channing Tatum
has moved on from the tween films that made him popular, "She's The Man" and the original "Step Up." He is playing with Ryan Phillippe, now, in an Oscar potential film, "Stop Loss."

Enough about Channing Tatum. Disney has signed Robert Hoffman - see photo - for "Step Up 2," which hits theaters Valentine's Day 2008.

"Harry Potter 7" - Guillermo Del Toro the Director?
October 29, 2007

Deathly HallowsThere is a rumor going around that "Pan's Labyrinth" director, Guillermo Del Toro, is being considered as the director of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the seventh and final chapter in the "Harry Potter" series. It would sure make for a beautiful and very dark "Deathly Hallows" if Del Toro is selected - and, perhaps, even a Best Picture Oscar.

We'll get to the bottom of the rumor next week, when we interview Del Toro, who will be on tour for his latest movie - for producing "The Orphanage," which hits theaters Christmas Day!

"Lions For Lambs" Destined For Slaughter
October 28, 2007

Lions For Lambs poster"Lions For Lambs," the movie that, on paper, looks like an Oscar sweeper, is bombing, big time, with critics. Expect it to be one of the biggest box office disappointments in the careers of Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. It should be noted that "Lions For Lambs" is the first movie out of the United Artists gate since Tom Cruise bought the studio - a few months after he was tossed out of the Paramount lot. At least he can't fire himself.

Also of interest: Neither Cruise, Streep nor Redford are doing any publicity for the movie that is destined for slaughter by the majority of movie critics, worldwide. According to the invitation that we received, participating in the "Lions For Lambs" press day at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel next week? D and F-listers Michael Pena and Andrew Garfield - and writer Michael Carnahan. We've heard of one of them, Michael Pena, and interviewed him at the "World Trade Center" junket. Great actor - and singer, (yes, he has his own band). Just needs a better talent agent.

Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio - Quattro

October 24, 2007

Shutter IslandAward winning author Denis Lehane - "Mystic River" - is getting the big screen treatment for a third time. Third time may be the charm for a Best Picture Oscar.

With "Shutter Island," Martin Scorsese and Leonard DiCaprio team up for the fourth time - after "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator," and "The Departed" - in a movie that will be shot in and around New England, a favorite locale for all Dennis Lehane books - most notably Boston, in "Mystic River" and "Gone Baby Gone."

Eager to find out just what type of story Scorsese is adapting?

"Shutter Bus"

Summer, 1954.

U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Along with his partner, Chuck Aule, he sets out to find an escaped patient, a murderess named Rachel Solando, as a hurricane bears down upon them.

But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems.

And neither is Teddy Daniels.

Is he there to find a missing patient? Or has he been sent to look into rumors of Ashecliffe’s radical approach to psychiatry? An approach that may include drug experimentation, hideous surgical trials, and lethal countermoves in the shadow war against Soviet brainwashing. . . .

Or is there another, more personal reason why he has come there?

As the investigation deepens, the questions only mount:

How has a barefoot woman escaped the island from a locked room?

Who is leaving clues in the form of cryptic codes?

Why is there no record of a patient committed there just one year before?

What really goes on in Ward C?

Why is an empty lighthouse surrounded by an electrified fence and armed guards?

The closer Teddy and Chuck get to the truth, the more elusive it becomes, and the more they begin to believe that they may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive them insane...

Brad & Angelina Create World's Most Boring TV Show - In History

October 23, 2007

Brad & Angelina PhotoBrad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are teaming up to produce a new TV series. And guess what? No one will watch it. It sounds like the most boring and politically correct piece of crap that will ever hit the airwaves. The still as of yet untitled series will be based on the lives of aid workers.

Perhaps HBO, the network behind the bomb in the making, needed to find something that will crash and burn so that they can get a tax break. With all their hits, "Sex And The City," "Big Love," "The Sopranos," "Deadwood," "Taxi Cab Confessions," and so on and so forth, they need a dud.

And to make matters worse, Jolie, who undoubtedly thought this gem up, and Pitt, aren't in the show. Just producing.

You might be wondering - well, it's a nice gesture. Well, think again. The series is not a documentary type show, (or show with a host, think Ty Pennington of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"), rather a series that will be WRITTEN by the cowriter of "The Bourne Ultimatum."

What is there to write for a show such as this if it is supposed to be a series about real international aid workers? Oh, wait. Maybe the show will be good. Perhaps Jason Bourne will show up and save all the starving and dying children and...

Mark Wahlberg Replaces Ryan Gosling in Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones"
October 22, 2007

Lovely Bones

Just one day before filming on the big screen adaptation of the NY Times #1 Best Seller, "The Lovely Bones," was to begin, with Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling in the lead, it was announced by Peter Jackson, the film's director, that Oscar nominee Mark Wahlberg would be stepping in, as Gosling left due to creative differences. We're not sure what the 'creative differences' were that led to Gosling bolting from what is positioned to become one of the movies to clean up at the 2009 Oscars. Due stay tuned.

Oscar winner Rachel Weisz remains as the mother of the dead girl, who narrates the story from heaven.

(The same story floated around last month, regarding "Sweeney Todd."

"T.R. Knight" Tapes PSA - Hoping More Closeted Homosexuals Come Out Of The Closet
October 10, 2007

TR KnightGrey's Anatomy star, the openly gay T.R. Knight, has recorded a public service announcement in a bid to help other closeted homosexuals come out. The actor claims he was "forced out" after former cast mate Isaiah Washington used a derogatory gay slur in an on-set fight - and he has since been championed by gay rights groups for taking a stand. And now, Knight has teamed up with The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to shoot a powerful public service announcement in recognition of National Coming Out Day. In the 20-second ad, Knight tells viewers how important it is to accept their gay friends and family members. The PSA marks the one-year anniversary of the actor's gay announcement in People magazine, when he made history by becoming the first actor to publicly come out while appearing on one of the nation's top-rated shows. The spot is part of GLAAD's new Be An Ally & A Friend PSA campaign featuring 22 entertainers from television, film and sports. The spots encourage people to be allies to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and to help combat homophobia.

"The Martian Child" & "The Pursuit of Happyness" - Poster Plagiarism Part 2
October 9, 2007

Martian Child

As you saw yesterday, we provided clear cut proof that the "National Treasure 2" movie poster is an attempt to steal the audience who roared to another Nicolas Cage film earlier this year, "Ghost Rider."

Today, we bring you another poster that is a clear cut carbon copy of a $100 million, Oscar nominated movie. See below!

Pursuit of Happyness

"National Treasure 2" Poster - "Ghost Rider" Posters, Reincarnated!
October 8, 2007

National Treasure 2

We all know that when it comes to originality, Hollywood has less than zero. But, until now, it seems that the lack of originality ended with the screenplay of movies. Yes, Hollywood's writers are so lazy that they can't think of a new musical, rather have to REMAKE "Footloose."

However, now they have gone one step further; stealing poster art from each other in order to hopefully lure audiences from succesful films to their films.

Disney is hoping that the crowd who turned up at "Ghost Rider," the successful (at the box office) Nicolas Cage movie earlier this year, will zoom to theaters this Christmas to see him, once again, in "National Treasure 2." So much so - are they hoping on a repeat audience - that Disney has plagiarized the "Ghost Rider" posters, morphing them into the "National Treasure 2" poster, actually, with the magic of Photo Shop. All while making Nicolas Cage look even younger and more plactic-y than he does in the "Ghose Rider" posters - or in person. (Nicolas Cage looks at least 10 years older than he is - 43 - in person). Seeing is believing. Three "Ghost Rider" posters, below, or... (continue)

"The Kite Runner" - The Paramount Vantage Scandal
October 7, 2007

Kite Runner Movie Poster"The Kite Runner,"
based on the #1 NY Times Best Seller, was originally scheduled for a limited November 2, 2007 release. Until, Paramount Vantage (it seems) concocted a great red herring, to delay the film's release, all while getting ABC News to jump on the story, which is about as believable as one of Tom Cruise, Zac Efron, Elijah Wood, Seth Green or Peter Berg being heterosexual.

According to a 2 1/2 minute segment on the Friday night "World News Tonight With Charles Gibson," Paramout Vantage is delaying the release of "The Kite Runner" by six weeks, because one of the child actors in the film, a preteen boy, is raped on screen - and the stigma of rape in Afghanastan, where the film is set, and where much of it was shot, is taboo. "The studio fears for the life of the child once the film is released," said the report, "and the studio is doing whatever it can to protect the child from potential harm."

First, whether or not the film is released on November 2 or its new release date, December 14, 2007, means nothing regarding the alleged safety of the child in question. The film, "The Kite Runner," may never see the darkness of an Afghanie movie theater.

Second, the studio could easily have 'removed' the child from the country before the film's November 2 United States release. It was a full month away when the decision was made to change the film's release date.

The only reason, the real reason the studio pushed the film back six weeks, (according to an insider at Paramount Vantage, off the record to me), is because a December 14th film release - along with the nonsensical free publicity for the film, which we are guilty of promulgating, too - is better for its Oscar chances.

Why couldn't they just admit that in the first place, rather than make up a story that is so far fetched it borders on insanity?

Using a child, who is a character that is raped in your movie, to push back your film's release date, so it has a better chance come Oscar time, is abhorant. Almost as bad as casting the preteen (at the time of filming) Dakota Fanning, in a real rape scene in "Hounddog." (Also a film whose release date was pushed back to better its Oscar chances. However, in the case of the Dakota Fanning film, it may never be released in theaters. It is that bad of a movie.)

Regardless of how good or bad the movies are, anyone in their right mind will boycott both films, entirely.

"Sleeping With Leonardo DiCaprio"

October 6, 2007

Leonardo DiCaprioYou'd be a liar if you said that the prospect of sleeping with Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't enticing. (Unless you're not into tall, lanky, without a doubt visually stunning, Italian young men.) Three-time Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio has struck a deal with the owners of The Four Seasons Resorts chain to create a 'green hotel' in Belize. The new environmental Caribbean getaway will be built on land "The Departed" star owns on the island. Slaving away at building the new hotel will begin in mid 2008.

Don't count out a junket for a movie Leonardo DiCaprio stars in during 2010 and/or 2011 taking place at the hotel. I've spent more than 300 nights (yes, nearly a full year), at The Four Seasons at Beverly Hills during the past 12 years, the hotel of choice for film junkets in Los Angeles. But with the star that Hollywood, publicists, writers and fans, alike, love equally, it's hard to imagine that the hotel will not entertain movie critics, film publicists and stars of an upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio film. Think of all the free publicity the hotel will get. (Not that it will need it, of course.)

And, if you want to claim bragging rights to having spent time in a bed that Leo built - and perhaps slept in - it won't be too hard. You'll be able to book a 'deluxe' room, once the hotel opens, for under $600 U.S.

Who knows? You might even catch Leonardo naked, as I did, seven years ago, (while at "The Beach" junket in Hawaii, at The Ritz Carlton Hotel), in the steam room.

Paramount Kissing Ass - Dreamworks' Ass, Specifically, Again!

October 4, 2007

Sumner RedstoneIt is common knowledge that Sumner Redstone, the dreadful old bag of wind, and owner of Viacom, (which currently includes The Wall St. Journal), is at war not only with his children, daughter Shari Redstone, especially, but also the studio - Dreamworks - he ignorantly let Brad Grey buy two years ago. Today, there seems to be a lot of ass kissing going on at Paramount to keep Spielberg and Geffen from skipping the lot.

And, also, today, it was revealed that Paramount executives, (the few brave souls that remain at 5555 Melrose Ave), in order to try and dredge up some good Karma from the Dreamworks team, Paramount has agreed to give DreamWorks enhanced recognition on its future film releases. How so? For example, it will state publicly that future DreamWorks films are distributed by DreamWorks-Paramount instead of saying that they are distributed by Paramount alone. The designation will first appear in connection with this weekend's release of The Heartbreak Kid, starring Ben Stiller. "It was important to DreamWorks principals David Geffen and Steven Spielberg that things be clear in terms of the movies that are theirs," a Paramount executive said. Numerous reports have been leaked by Paramount indicatating that they, (Paramount) is trying to do what it can to save the DreamWorks marriage and keep Steven Spielberg and David Geffen from bolting at the end of 2008 when their contract expires.

Personally, we hope that Sumner Redstone fires the entire Dreamworks tribe, including the horrible publicists from Dreamworks that came with the package, (causing many loyal publicists to get fired, laid off, or run away because the morale at the studio was less than bearable), including the vile and disgusting Michael Vollman and wretched Christine Batista who have hijacked the Paramount Pictures motion picture publicity department.

Come to think of it, more than likely it was Vollman (a Katzenberg kiss-asser) and Batista, two Dreamworks transplants, who petitioned Paramount's Rob Moore, Gerry Rich and Brad Grey, to include the Dreamworks-Paramount designation on all of 'their' upcoming titles.

"Friday The 13th" The Remake
October 3, 2007

Friday The 13thAs if the first "Friday the 13th" movie, and its eight sequels weren't enough, writers in Hollywood have come up with an ingenious idea - a remake of an 80s movie. No wonder they are walking off the job next summer. Hopefully the powers that be fail to succumb to their demands of higher salaries until an original goddmaned screenplay gets turned in. Shame on the studio, New Line, for actually biting at this sure-to-be box office bomb - "Friday The 13th: The Remake."

Hollywood should have gotten the hint - ten years ago - when Universal Pictures remade "Psycho" with nut job Anne Heche and a then unknown Vince Vaugh. The remake bombed, ruined Anne Heche's career (thankfully) and was put on dozens of Worst lists the year it was released.

It's bad enough that little queen in the making, Zac Efron is stepping into Kevin Bacon's shoes, in the "Footloose" remake, due in theaters next summer... But a remake of "Friday The 13th?" Is anyone in the world so desperate that they need to waste not only their $10 at a "Friday the 13th remake," but precious time that could have been better spent watching the hair on their cat's tail go grey?

Kiefer Sutherland Expected To Spend Nearly A Week In Jail

September 27, 2007

Kiefer Sutherland

Kiefer Sutherland, AKA Jack Bauer on the hit FOX drama "24," faces jail if he is convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol, under California's two strikes system. Sutherland was on his way home from a Fox network party when he was pulled over by police yesterday at the junction of La Cienega and Beverly at 1:35AM after making an illegal U-turn. A breath test found him to have twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system, according to reports. Sutherland, 40, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. It's the second time Sutherland has been arrested for DUI - he was caught committing the same offense in California in 2004. He will appear before a California court on 16 October to answer charges and, if convicted, faces a mandatory five-day jail sentence.

Wonder if he'll be bunking with "Die Hard" director John McTiernan, who was sentenced to jail earlier this week.

Sally Field - Two Time Best Actress Oscar Winner in Steven Spielberg's Next Film

September 26, 2007

Sally FieldSpeaking of over-60-year old actresses... Two-time Best Actress Oscar winner Sally Field, ("Norma Rae" and "Places In The Heart") who raised the flag on behalf of wartime mothers in her bleeped-out Emmy acceptance speech, could just be warming up. The recent best actress Emmy winner (ABC's Brothers & Sisters) is attached to play Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's long-gestating biopic "Lincoln." The troubled Mrs. Lincoln bore the president four sons, only two of which survived into adulthood. Based on Boston (Concord, MA) historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln," the film is expected to focus on the 16th president's role in leading the North in the Civil War. "Lincoln" is expected in theaters late 2008. Could this be the third time in history that Steven Spielberg has the biggest blockbuster and potential Best Picture nominee released in the same year. Remember "Schindler's List" and "Jurassic Park" from 1993 and "Munich" and "War Of The Worlds" from 2005? Well, the 2008 could be the year of "Indiana Jones 4," at the box office, and "Lincoln" at the Oscars. And, just maybe, Sally Field will pick up her third Best Actress Oscar!

Over 60 - And Still Acting!
But Where Are The Females?

September 25, 2007

Sylvester StalloneThis could have been a ten page story. But I figured I would spare you and allow you to discuss.

Simply, if you are just over the age of 30, or even 40, and are feeling 'old,' GET OVER IT!

The following A-list actors are Over 60, and have no plans on retiring any time soon: Al Pacino (67), Robert DeNiro (64), Richard Dreyfuss (60), Arnold Schwarzenegger (60), Sylvester Stallone (61), Harrison Ford (65), John Lithgow (62), Danny Glover (61), Albert Brooks (60), Alan Rickman (61), Michael Douglas (63), Beau Bridges (66), Danny DeVito (63), Christopher Walken (64), James Caan (67), Tommy Lee Jones (61), Steve Martin (62), Billy Crystal (60), Chevy Chase (64), Stephen Rea (61), Rob Reiner (60), James Woods (60), Kevin Kline (60), Edward James Olmos (60), Tom Selleck (63), Nick Nolte (66). And FYI - Richard Gere and Samuel Jackson are months away from turning the big six-0. For females? Only Diane Keaton (61), Sally Field (61), Glenn Close (60) and Anne Archer (60) - a WAM favorite actress of all time that needs even more work.

And if you're wondering...

Over 70: Harvey Keitel (69), Clint Eastwood (78), Jack Nicholson (71), Morgan Freeman (71), Louis Gossett Jr. (71), Woody Allen (72), Burt Reynolds (71), Robert Redford (71), Peter O'Toole (75), Gene Hackman (78), Dustin Hoffman (70), Dean Stockwell (71), Martin Landau (76), Sean Connery (78), Danny Aiello (74), Michael Caine (74), Robert Duvall (77), Anthony Hopkins (71), William Shatner (76), Alan Arkin (73), Warren Beatty (70)! For females? Beatty's sister, Shirley MacLaine (73), Judi Dench (73), Maggie Smith (74), and Jane Fonda (71). (However, Fonda's future career in movies is is debatable since she has nothing on her plate after two bombs in a row; "Georgia Rule" and "Monster-In-Law").

Over 80: James Garner (80), Paul Newman (83), Bob Barker (84), Charles Durning (85), Mickey Rooney (87).

Pushing 90: Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes is 89 and Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes is 89. Neither have a desire to retire.
