"The Matarese Circle" Goes Round Tom Cruise
February 17, 2009

Tom Cruise is getting ready to partner with Denzel Washington in "The Matarese Circle," the David Cronenberg directed adaptation of the Robert Ludlum thriller for Cruise will go mano a mano with Washington as two bitter enemy spies who, after spending two decades trying to kill each other, grudgingly team up against the Matarese, a powerful group at the root of a conspiracy. The script by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas ("Wanted") contemporizes Ludlum's original Cold War premise. While Tom Cruise is a co-owner of MGM sibling studio United Artists, "The Matarese Circle" will strictly be an MGM picture. The combination of Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington and David Cronenberg makes "Matarese Circle" the marquee film under the new regime of MGM president Mary Parent.
In the original $3 million deal made for the Robert Ludlum title, MGM also acquired "The Matarese Countdown," giving the studio a shot at creating a franchise, as Universal did with Ludlum's "The Bourne Identity." Tom Cruise had been mentioned as the potential star of several plum projects around town before the pairing with Denzel Washington was confirmed.
"The Matarese Circle" is on track for a 2010 theatrical release.
Tom
Cruise, who most recently starred in the Bryan Singer-directed UA drama "Valkyrie," is expected to star next with Charlize Theron in "The Tourist," the Bharat Nalluri-directed remake of the 2005 French thriller "Anthony Zimmer"... (continue)

"Let Them Chirp" AGAIN - Jonathan Blitstein Is Back Behind The Camera
February 15, 2009

The moniker 'first time director' is no longer appropriate for Jonathan Blitstein. His second feature, "Escape To Donegal," begins shooting in NYC this summer. Starring, well, we can't yet tell you. We were sworn to secrecy. But the names attached are ones that will get you to drag your asses into theaters across the country, once the movie is released in theaters. You'll remember Jonathan Blitstein for directing last fall's "Let Them Chirp Awhile." That film starred Brandon Sexton, (the punk who tries to rape Dawn Weiner in the classic "Welcome To The Dollhouse.") "Escape To Donegal" will be akin to the plot of a Philp K. Dick story. We can't wait.
"Duplicity" or "The International" - Clive Owen x2. And Movie Poster Clones
February 14, 2009

It's bad enough that we have two Clive Owen movies - being released in movie theaters within a month of each; this week's "The International," in which he costars with , who is it? Oh, yeah, the forgettable Naomo Watts. And next month's "Duplicity" - opposite Julia Roberts.
The movies are similar in theme - watch both movie trailers here, "The International" and "Duplicity" - but what's worse, the movie posters for both movies are interchangeable.
We bring you both, today, "The International" movie poster and the "Duplicity" movie poster. And Hollywood wonders why no one is going to the movies. Perhaps if everyone, beginning with the producers, to the graphic designers of movie posters could get an original thought in their heads people like us wouldn't mind forking over $12 per ticket.
And if you think the "Duplicity" and "The International" posters are too similar, just watch the movie trailers for the back-to-back Russell Crowe movies; "Body Of Lies," which bombed at the movie box office a couple of months ago, and the upcoming impending movie box office bomb, "State Of Play." The two plots couldn't be more similar if they had been written by clones.

The 2009 big screen version of "Fame" finally has an official website - and TEN "Fame" movie posters. Wild About Movies is the first to bring them to you.
Also, "American Idol Season 8" finalist Joanna Pacitti has been booted from the show. The contestant had released a record professionally and sang a few songs for straight to DVD movies "Bratz" cartoons, etc. Sources said it was ultimately Pacitti’s recently revealed friendship with executives from Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment, which co-produces “American Idol,” that got her the boot after she failed to disclose it. The bitch never belonged on the show to begin with, since she had already tried and failed as a professional singer. Shame on "American Idol" for allowing her in to begin with.

Chris Brown Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Girlfriend Rihanna
February 9, 2009

Nineteen year old worldwide singing sensation Chris Brown ("Forever") turned himself into police early Sunday night in Los Angeles, for assaulting his girlfriend, twenty year old singing superstar Rihanna ("Disturbia"). Both Chris Brown and Rihanna were scheduled to perform on last night's Grammy Awards. The police booking report - here - lists Chris Brown being arrested at 6:30PM PST. The Grammy Awards started around 5PM PST.
Per department policy, police declined to identify the alleged victim in the incident, which occurred about 12:30 a.m. (Feb 9, 2009) in the Hancock Park area, apparently as the two were heading home from Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash, where they had been all smiles. In a statement, police say Brown and his companion "became involved in an argument. After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out and the argument escalated. The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker." By the time officers arrived on the scene, Brown had split. Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, decided against singing a medley of "Disturbia" and "Live Your Life" at tonight's awards. Likewise, Brown scrapped his scheduled performance of "Forever." "We're sorry she is unable to join us this evening," said the Recording Academy. A virtually identical statement was issued for Brown's absence. Brown and Rihanna were up for dueling Pop Collaboration With Vocals awards, Brown for his duet with Jordin Sparks on "No Air," Rihanna with Maroon 5 for "If I Never See Your Face Again." Brown was also contending for Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Take You Down." Neither Brown nor Rihanna won anything.
Chris Brown was released from jail at 8:35PM EST, after posting $50,000 bail. Fittingly, right as The Grammy's ended. Chris Brown is to next appear in court to answer for this crime on March 5, 2009, at 8:30AM.

February 9, 2009

The movie "Watchmen," the first from director Zack Snyder since his groundbreaking "300" hits movie theaters next month. The first industry screening was this past Friday. Movie executives from around Hollywood attended the screening and here is what one high powered executive, NOT from Warner Bros, the studio releasing the movie "The Watchmen" in North America, has to say...

"Beezus & Ramona" To The Big Screen

"Terra" Gets A Summer 2009 Theatrical Release
February 5, 2009

Mala (Evan Rachel Wood) is a precocious girl living on the beautiful planet "Terra," a place where peace and tolerance are celebrated. Unbeknownst to Mala and her fellow Terrians, the last inhabitants of Earth have exhausted the resources of their planet and those of three others, and are now searching for a new home. This Earthforce has discovered that the use of a Terraformer will make "Terra" inhabitable for humans but poisonous for Terrians. When the Earthlings embark on a hostile invasion of "Terra", Malas father, Roven (Dennis Quaid), is kidnapped. Hoping to save her father, Mala captures and hides a crashed human pilot named Jim (Luke Wilson). While Mala nurses Jim back to health, the two forge a friendship and a plan that could save both the human race and the planet of Terra. Soon, however, they realize that peace will not be secured unless they can combat both the Terraformer and dark political forces that will stop at nothing in their drive to achieve power for powers sake. While the message of "Terra" is that peace is a question of free will and choice is a potent one, the exuberance of Mala and her young friends carries "Terra."
The animated movie "Terra" is going through a title change. Stay tuned for a new movie poster with the title "Battle For Terra."

* Christian Bale Goes "Psycho"
February 4, 2009
Listen to the F-bomb laden tirade that Christian Bale goes into on the set of the upcoming movie "Terminator Salvation". Christian Bale, the star and of "The Dark Knight" lost his shit on the set of "Terminator Salvation." While we at WAM are not psychologists, nor do we have any medical degrees in psychiatry, we can pontificate on the reasons for his outburst.
First, Christian Bale, "The Dark Knight," must be pissed, at the very least, that even though he is the lead, the title character, Batman, that the late Heath Ledger got all of the press and accolades, including most likely a 2009 Oscar for his part in "The Dark Knight," The Joker.
The movie "The Dark Knight" was released in movie theaters July 18, 2008. The F-bomb Christian Bale meltdown, caught on tape on the set of "Terminator 4," was recorded just a couple of days after the release of "The Dark Knight."
Granted, Heath Ledger was six months dead when the press junkets - around the world - took place for "The Dark Knight," but it was Heath Ledger getting 100% of print. And he still is.
Wild About Movies will be both the "Terminator Salvation" and "Public Enemies" junkets this summer. And Christian Bale is attending both. It will be nearly a year after his outburst when Wild About Movies interviews Christian Bale for "Public Enemies" and we can bet that he'll be riding high on the movie box office success of "Terminator Salvation" - opening in May 2009 - that he will laugh the "Terminator Salvation" 'meltdown' off.
Second, why did the Christian Bale 'meltdown' get released over six months after the incident? Wild About Movies can only speculate that Warner Bros. was too cheap to spend $3 million on a Super Bowl commercial for "Terminator Salvation" and decided to leak the tape the day after the Super Bowl, (while studios throughout Hollywood paid for ten Super Bowl movie commericials), to get tens of millions of dollars of free publicity for the film. And it worked. All to the embarassment of Christian Bale.
But does he really care? Not really. He's already committed to another "Batman" sequel and unless hell freezes over, he'll be back in another "Terminator" movie. Sometimes you have to take one not for the team but for yourself.
If you missed the Christian Bale meltdown, or want to hear it again... (continue)
