"2007 Academy Awards" Predictions
Check back regularly, as this section will be updated and revised, continuously, until "2007 Oscars" day.
September 26, 2006: Wild About Movies has seen "The Queen," starring Helen Mirren. And without any doubt, she is the frontrunner for winning Best Actress. In addition, "The Queen" has a chance at a Best Picture, Director (Stephen Frears), Original Screenplay and Cinematography nominatons.
Other strong possibilities for the 2007 Best Actress Oscar nominations after Hellen Mirren for "The Queen:," Judi Dench for "Notes On A Scandal"; Cate Blanchett for "Notes On A Scandal"; Meryl Streep for "The Devil Wears Prada"; and
Rinko Kikuchi for "Babel."
November 29, 2006: For 2007 Best Actor Academy Awards, the contenders will most likely be: Peter O'Toole for "Venus"; Sacha Baron Cohen for "Borat"; Jack Nicholson, "The Departed"; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness"; Ed Norton, (either "The Illusionist" or "A Painted Veil").
If the Academy just didn't think "Borat" was acting, then maybe Ken Watanabe, star of "Letters From Iwo Jima" will get the fifth slot!
December 1, 2006: For Best Picture, the contenders will undoubtly be: "Apocalypto"; "The Departed," "The Illusionist," "A Painted Veil," "The Queen."
December 1, 2006: For 2007 Best Director Oscars, the contenders will undoubtedly be: Mel Gibson for "Apocalypto;" Martin Scorsese," for "The Departed;" Stephen Frears, for "The Queen;" Pedro Almodovar, for "Volver;" and... yes, Clint Eastwood. But not for "Flags of Our Fathers, the Paramount bomb, rather for "Letters From Iwo Jima," Eastwood's take on the Japanese version of WWII.
December 8, 2006: For 2007 Best Supporting Actor Academy Awards, contenders should include Jade Smith for "The Pursuit of Happyness; "Michael Sheen for "The Queen;" and...check back often, as we will be posting our final three selections.
December 8, 2006: For 2007 Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations, Wild About Movies thinks that although "Running With Scissors" bombed - deservedly - big time, Jill Clayburgh will score a sympathy vote. Who else? Well, why not Emily (Emily Blunt), the girl who gave Meryl Streep a run for her stockings in "The Devil Wears Prada?" Catherine O'Hara for "For Your Consideration," if there is any justice. And... we'll decide soon enough!
