In the movie The Maze Runner, based on the Young Adult novel of the same name, Thomas wakes up in an elevator, remembering nothing but his own name. He emerges into a world of about 60 teen boys who have learned to survive in a completely enclosed environment, subsisting on their own agriculture and supplies from below. A new boy arrives every 30 days.
The original group has been in “the glade” for two years, trying to find a way to escape through a maze that surrounds their living space. They have begun to give up hope. Then a comatose girl arrives with a strange note, and their world begins to change.
There are some great, fast-paced action scenes, particularly those involving the nightmarish Grievers who plague the boys.
The Maze Runner sounds a lot like a classic episode from The Twilight Zone original TV series, where characters are trapped in a box, only to find out, at the end, that they are toys being donated for poor children during the Christmas season.
We know the ending of the movie couldn’t be as brilliant, however.
The Maze Runner features two up and coming cuties. Dylan O’Brien who stars on the Teen Wolf TV series, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, who is on Game Of Thrones.
UPDATE: On October 5, 2013 it was announced that The Maze Runner, which had originally been scheduled for a February 14, 2014 release was going to be delayed until September 19. 2014.
“Good news and bad news y’all. Bad news, you have to wait a bit longer. Good news, the movie and marketing can be the best it can be now,” director Wes Ball tweeted today. “These things aren’t my choice, but I 100% agree with Fox’s decision. Just imagine the cool stuff we can do with a little extra time,” he added. What could he possibly say in public? F Fox?
