The movie The Giver tells the story of Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.
The movie The Giver is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
In a perfect world where there is no conflict, racism or sickness, every member of society has a specific role, and 16-year-old Jonas (oddly/creepily played by Bratnon Thwaites who is 25 years old) is selected to be the Receiver of Memories.
As Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world’s past, he discovers that many years earlier his forefathers gave up humanity in order to have a stable society.
EXCLUSIVE EVENTS: Fathom Events is presenting the cast and crew of “The Giver” at the film’s theatrical premiere, live from the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York for an exclusive presentation of “The Giver: World Premiere Red Carpet Event” to select U.S. movie theaters on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 7pm EDT and tape delayed at 7pm CDT, MDT and PDT. Audiences will experience the glamorous red carpet as though they were invited guests with the cast and crew, scheduled to include Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift, Brenton Thwaites and many others.
