Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house. It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option-with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shotgun, it may be just what Tammy needs.
Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine was originally supposed to play the grandmother of Tammy. But for some reason – sadly – she didn’t and we now have Susan Sarandon, (who is way too young to be playing the role of a grandmother to Melissa McCarthy) as the grandmother.
Ben Falcone, the real-life husband of Melissa McCarthy, directed the movie Tammy.
Warner Bros. is hoping that the movie Tammy, starring Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy, is the biggest comedy of the summer. With the Melissa McCarthy movies Bridesmaids, Identity Thief and The Heat, all super-sized hits at the movie box office, it’s doubtful that Tammy will be anything but a movie box office smash – proving that Melissa McCarthy is one of the most bankable female actresses in Hollywood today.
