The movie Foxcatcher tells the story of John du Pont (Steve Carell), who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and killed Olympic wrestler David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo).
Mark Ruffalo plays Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz in this drama, which chronicles his relationship with John du Pont (Steve Carell), the schizophrenic heir to the du Pont chemical company who shot and killed Schultz on his sprawling Pennsylvania estate in 1996.
Foxcatcher is from the director of Moneyball and Capote, Bennett Miller.
Gary Oldman was first choice for the role of Jon Du Pont, but he didn’t make the cut.
Foxcatcher was originally scheduled for a Christmas 2013 release in order to capitalize on the Oscar worthy performances by Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo. However, on September 26, 2013, Sony Classics moved the movie to a ‘to be determined’ release date in 2014. Their reason, “to give the director more time in the editing room.”
