In the 90s, Laurence tells his girlfriend that he wants to become a woman. In spite of the odds, in spite of each other, they confront the prejudices of their friends, ignore the council of their families, and brave the phobias of the society they offend. For 10 years, they try to live through this transition, and embark on an epic journey which, unbeknownst to them, may cost each of them each other.
The movie is directed by the 24 year old gay Canadian Xavier Dolan, whose 2011 film Heartbeats and 2009 film I Killed My Mother, were festival favorites.
The movie Laurence Anyways clocks in at nearly 3 hours, so if you do see it, make sure you pee before the movie starts.
