"Bangkok Dangerous #1"
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

With the independent studios and independent divisions of most major movie studios going the way of the dinosaur - Paramount's Vantage, Warner Bros' WIP, THINKFilm, Picturehouse - its amazing that no less than eight independent movies are hitting movie theaters this weekend. However, good luck trying to find a movie theater showcasing any of the independent releases if you're not in NYC. The only new major wide release this weekend is Nicolas Cage in "Bangkok Dangerous." (See Nicolas Cage interview). Among the indies that will be competing at privately owned movie theaters in NYC; "Ping Pong Playa," "Mister Foe," "The Pool," "Everybody Wants To Be Italian," "Save Me," "Momma's Man," "A Secret" and "Walking On Dead Fish." Wild About Movies brings you the trailers and movie posters of all new independent movies in theaters. Sadly, the trailers will be about as close to the movies you'll get until they hit DVD. Unless you are a subscriber of HDNet. Mark Cuban's Magnolia Picture, "Mister Foe," starring Jamie Bell, plays on the HDNet cable channel, as well as in his Landmark Theaters. Both HDNet and Landmark Theaters are owned by Mark Cuban. Currently, a lot of low end independent studio's films - Magnolia and IFC - are released via Video On Demand and in theaters, (albeit in one or two movie theaters, nationwide), day and date. Additionally, a lot of producers are releasing their low budget independent movies without the help of a major mini or independent studio. Cases in point this weekend: Chad Allen's "Save Me" and the Hindi film "The Pool." Ironically, "Bangkok Dangerous" - with Nicolas Cage's worst wig to date - grabbed the #1 spot at the movie box office this weekend, with less than $8 million; the worst opening for a Nicolas Cage movie in memory - and the worst posting for a #1 movie at the movie box office in eons.
