"November 21-23, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"Twilight" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

"Twilight" had a great opening day at the movie box office; $35 million. But the movie's take at the movie box office dropped precipitously after its first day in theaters. That, however, didn't stop the movie, the first box office smash from Summit Entertainment, from coming in at #1... with a whopping $70 million.
November 2008 has been the month of surprises; Barack Obama, the first black person to win the Presidency of The United States. The world stock markets plummeting to their lowest levels in memory. Walt Disney's Bolt, bombing at the movie box office, coming in at #3: the worst ever debut for an original wide release Disney animated film.
And "Twilight," overcoming everyone's expectations, even those at Wild About Movies and most critics and movie box office analysts.
The poorly reviewed, low budget vampire love story starring virtual unknowns - Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart - attracted its fanbase, tweens and their mothers, in record numbers.
Give it to Summit. The company headed by the competent and well liked Rob Friedman surely deserved a hit. Barely a year and a half old, the fledgling mini-major studio has seen bomb after bomb, including the October release "Sex Drive."
If "Twilight" had been a movie box office disaster Summit may have became a casualty of this horrific economy.
VP of publicity, Nancy Kirkpatrick, at Summit, certainly deserves kudos for driving the 'little engine that could.' Kirkpatrick had the stars of the film on a 15 city tour the two weeks leading up to the release of "Twilight" - some cities reporting hysterical, fainting girls after catching a sight of the then unknown but now bonafide household name - Robert Pattinson.
On Saturday, after hearing that "Twilight" pulled in over $35 million its first day in movie theaters, Summit ordered production of "New Moon," the second in the "Twilight" series. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will return. Word has not yet leaked as to whether director Catherine Hardwicke will be returning. But chances are good that she will helm "New Moon" and the final two "Twilight" themed movies.
In the movie "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke brings a worldwide literary phenomenon to life on the big screen in the movie Twilight, the story of the passionate and unexpected romance between a teenage girl and a mysterious and irresistible vampire.
Kristen Stewart (most famous for playing lesbian Jodie Foster's daughter in "Panic Room") and Robert Pattinson (most famous for dying in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix") star as a post-modern Romeo and Juliet in an action-filled and suspenseful adventure with a supernatural bite.
