"The Dark Knight" #1

Dark Knight

"The Dark Knight" remains the #1 movie at the movie box office, its second weekend in movie theaters, grabbing nearly $76 million. ("Shrek 2" held the title for biggest second weekend movie box office gross with $72 million). "The Dark Knight's" ten day movie box office gross stands at $314 million. The previous fastest to $300 million movie was "Pirates of the Caribbean 2," which took 16 days to reach the $300 million mark. The next movie to give "The Dark Knight" a run for its money at the movie box office will be "The Mummy 3," in theaters next Friday, August 1st. (Keep in mind that all of these movie box office records which "The Dark Knight" has broken mean not much since movie ticket prices go up exponentially each year. Hollywood needs to start tracking movies the way music and television show traffic is gauged; by number of units sold or number of people who watch. Our advice to Hollywood studios: start reporting the number of TICKETS SOLD each weekend). Will Ferrell's "Step Brothers" took the #2 spot at the movie box office with less than half of the weekend total of "The Dark Knight." The ten years in the making "The X Files 2" bombed, as expected, coming in #4, behind "Mamma Mia: The Movie," eeking out just over $10 million, its first three days in movie theaters.
