"The Dark Knight" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Dark Knight

There is almost no question that "The Dark Knight" will be the highest grossing movie at the movie box office this year. The question is how many records will Heath Ledger's last big studio movie break during its first three days in movie theaters? FIRST: Warner Bros.' "The Dark Knight" grossed the most ever for midnight shows, racking up an estimated $19 million. Second: Its first full day in theaters, Friday, "The Dark Knight" reportedly took in $65+ million. The previous record was "Spiderman 3" with $59 million. Third: "The Dark Knight" is in more movie theaters its opening weekend than any movie in history; 4366. Fourth: "The Dark Knight" grabbed $158.4 its first three days at the movie box office, (Wild About Movies predicted a record breaking $155+ million opening weekend), which makes "The Dark Knight" the biggest opening in movie history, (beating out previous record holder "Spiderman 3," which grabbed $151.1 million its first three days in movie theaters, May 2007) - not really a big deal since tickets sold don't count and box office grosses, which rise exponentially each year, do. Not to mention that "The Dark Knight" is playing at dozens of IMAX theaters, exclusively, where movie ticket prices can go above $20 per. Having seen "The Dark Knight," once on IMAX and once in a conventional movie theater, it is easy to also predict that the film will clean up at the movie box office for weeks to come, as it will attract a lot of repeat, paying customers. (Some will run to "The Mummy 3" in two weeks but nary a person - if anyone - will want to pay twice to see the fourth film in "The Mummy" movie franchise, including "The Scorpion King.") Go Behind The Scenes of "The Dark Knight" and #2 flick at the movie box office this weekend, "Mamma Mia: The Movie" - which secured $28 million its first weekend in North American theaters, beating last year's "Hairspray," which had owned the opening weekend record at the movie box office for movie musical. As well as "Space Chimps," (which collected only $7.3 million bananas its first weekend in theaters), destined for the DVD bin at your local Wal-Mart within weeks.
