"Tropic Thunder" #1

Tropic Thunder

"The Dark Knight" is #1 no more. Ben Stiller's somewhat controversial action comedy "Tropic Thunder" blasted into first place at the weekend movie box office with $26 million. However, no other new movies this weekend, and there were more than a handful, could prevent "The Dark Knight" from slipping only to #2. Since its July 18th release, "The Dark Knight" has grossed $472 million - making it the second highest grossing movie of all time, behind "Titanic." In the #3 spot rests George Lucas's animated movie, "Star Wars: Clone Wars." At #4, the Kiefer Sutherland horror film "Mirrors." Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," the movie starring Oscar winner Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz, who engage in a ménage à trois, came in at #10, but with a very high per screen average. The 3D animated "Fly Me To The Moon" did much better than expected, coming in at #12 at the movie box office with $2 million, in less than 500 theaters.
