"August 1-3, 2008 Movie Box Office"
"The Dark Knight" #1
at www.wildaboutmovies.com

Dark Knight

"The Dark Knight" becomes the first movie of 2008 to claim the #1 spot at the movie box office for three consecutive weekends. On Friday, "The Mummy 3" grabbed $15 million and the #1 spot for the day, while "The Dark Knight" added $12.5 million to its already $350 million, since its release. However, "The Mummy 3" had a drop its second and third day in theaters at the movie box office, while "The Dark Knight" gained on Saturday, and a lot. Enough - at least according to preliminary reports - to make "The Dark Knight" movie box office champ for 3 weekends in a row - with $44 million this weekend - the first movie to do so since last year's "Night At The Museum." "The Mummy 3" saw a weekend movie box office gross of $42.5 million. "Swing Vote," the dreadful Kevin Costner movie was lucky to enter the movie box office fray at #6 this weekend, as it earned just over $6 million. "Midnight Meat Train" doesn't even have a chance at entering the Top 20, though it is the best new movie in release this weekend. The Clive Barker film was released in only 100 theaters, all of them second run, some which charge only $2 per ticket on weekends; it was able to achieve a grand total of only $32,000.
